Temperatures are set to rise again in Austria over the next few days. According to the forecast by Geosphere Austria (formerly ZAMG), this is due to the effects of a high-pressure wintry influence on Saturday. Only on Friday evening will a cold front reach us from the Bregenzerwald to the Salzkammergut.

The end of the working week will initially be heralded by clouds in the morning, especially in the west and north due to another disturbance zone. Some fresh snow will initially only fall above around 1300 to almost 2000 meters above sea level on Friday. Individual clearings are most likely in the far east and during the day in the extreme south. According to the forecast, a heavier band of precipitation from a cold front will reach the northern side of the Alps from Bregenzerwald to Salzkammergut towards the evening.

The snow line drops below 1000 meters

Gusts of wind from the west to northwest, some stormy, will first be felt in the mountains. During the night to Saturday, these winds will reach some of the Tauern valleys and the lowlands on the eastern edge of the Alps. The snow line will drop to well below 1000 meters. The wind will be weak to moderate in many places during the day. Early temperatures will range from minus four to plus six degrees, with daytime highs of six to twelve degrees.

Very sunny weather on Saturday

On Saturday, the remaining clouds from the night along the Alps will linger into the morning and then clear. This means that the very sunny weather will be widespread. The wind will still be brisk on the eastern edge of the Alps and in the eastern lowlands, even strong in places from the west-northwest. Otherwise, it will be mostly weak to moderate. It will be minus four to plus five degrees in the morning and four to eleven degrees during the day.

Up to minus 8 degrees is possible in the morning.

A pronounced high-pressure center lies over the whole of Central Europe on Sunday. This means there will be early morning fog in the west and south, especially in basin areas. Everywhere else, apart from high cloud fibers – the sun will shine all day. There will be a light wind. In the morning, people must brace for temperatures of minus eight to minus two degrees, even lower in snow-covered valleys. During the day, highs of four to eleven degrees can be expected.

Cloudy weather at the start of the week too

The new week will continue under high pressure over the Eastern Alps. Most of the morning fog and high fog patches will clear. Overall, the start of Monday will again be quite sunny and, in many cases, cloudless. The wind will pick up moderately from southerly directions, especially in the east. The daily highs will be between three and eleven degrees.

Clouds over the western half of Austria

According to the forecast, high pressure will continue to prevail in the eastern Alps on Tuesday. However, this will weaken from the west during the day. As a result, high and then medium-high cloud fields will gather over the western half of Austria by the evening.
